Florham Park is a 7.5-square mile borough in Morris County with about 12,000 residents. Parts of the Fairleigh Dickinson University and College of St. Elizabeth are located within the borough, giving it a genuine college town feel.
The name “Florham Park” describes the borough’s history of being the home of some of the country’s most affluent families. “Florham” comes from the combined names of its founders – Florence Adele Vanderbilt, granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt, and her financier husband Hamilton Twombly. Meanwhile “Park” comes from “Brooklake Park,” the name of a 1,000-acre property owned by Dr. Leslie Ward, one of the founders of the Prudential Financial, Inc.
Housing in Florham Park is diverse, ranging from homes that are distinctly from the 1950s and 1960s to newer luxury homes. There are also some condo communities.
Notable corporations operate in Florham Park, some of which are big names in chemicals and global telecommunications. The NFL’s New York Jets have their headquarters and practice facility here.
Three schools comprise the Florham Park School District, serving students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The student-teacher ratio is 11:1. Hanover Park High School, which serves public high school students in the ninth through twelfth grades, has a 10.3:1 student-teacher ratio.
Post-secondary education is easily within reach here as portions of the college campuses of the College of Saint Elizabeth and the Fairleigh Dickinson University are in Florham Park.
